Google Analytics 4: lessons learned (so far)

Google are ‘sunsetting’ Universal Analytics, the version of Google Analytics you’ve been using for the last decade, on 1 July 2023. They want everyone to switch over to the newer Google Analytics 4. At an undetermined point, probably in 2024, you will no longer be able to access historical data in your old analytics property.

This might all sound a long way off, but it requires taking action right now. After 1 July this year the point of no return will have passed: if you haven’t got GA4 up and running, you will be in an ever-widening data black hole. You won’t be able to reference your old UA data within GA4, which is why it’s vital to get your GA4 setup sorted ASAP so that it can start collecting its own data.

We’ve been working with GA4 and implementing it for clients for years, even before Google announced these cut-off dates. Clients like the British Museum, Royal Museums Greenwich, Tate, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. On the performing arts front, we’ve helped BH Live, Bush Theatre, La Boite Theatre, MAST Southampton, Royal College of Music, Royal Court Theatre, and others. We’ve worked with ticketing systems like Spektrix and Tessitura.

As a result, we’ve learned a lot about how GA4 works (and doesn’t work), during initial implementation and day-to-day use. It’s time to update everyone with our findings. Register for this free webinar and we’ll share tips, insights and observations that will help get you started with GA4.
